The cookies we set

CookieWhat it doesHow long it lasts
astro-sessionKeeps you signed in, and carries your basket through to checkout. It contains nothing but a random identifier — the session itself is stored on our server, not on your device. It is HttpOnly, so scripts cannot read it.Until you close your browser or sign out, whichever comes first.
dt_selectionRemembers the tree, the package and whether you added DeathTree Care while you are making up your mind, so your basket survives moving between pages and the basket marker can appear in the header. It holds those three choices and nothing else: no name, no email address, no payment detail. It is replaced whenever you change your choice, and cleared once your order is placed.

Both are first-party cookies, set by deathtree.co.uk and readable only by deathtree.co.uk. Both are sent over an encrypted connection and restricted to requests that start on this site.

What we do not set

There are no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies and no third-party scripts that set a cookie on this site. No ad network, no social pixel, no cross-site profiling, no browser storage holding your data after you leave.

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it stores nothing on your device and collects no personal data. That was the whole reason for choosing it.

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations require your consent before a site stores anything on your device, unless it is strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for. A sign-in session and a basket are the textbook examples of strictly necessary. Because those are the only two cookies here, and because our analytics sets nothing at all, there is nothing for you to consent to — so we do not interrupt you to ask.

Turning them off

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and nothing here will stop you. Be aware that without the session cookie we cannot keep you signed in or take you through checkout, so buying a tree or reaching your tree record will not work.

Any question about this page — or about a cookie you think you have seen that is not listed — goes to privacy@deathtree.co.uk, and we will answer honestly. Our privacy notice covers everything else we hold.
