What you get

A keepsake, and a record.

  • A digital certificate carrying your tree’s name, species, reference number and the date its story began.
  • A dedication in your own words, if you would like one.
  • A tree record you can add to over the years: photographs, measured heights, the day it went into the ground.
  • A print layout made for A4, so the certificate can go into a frame, a folder or an envelope.
  • An export of everything held about your tree, and deletion whenever you ask for it.

Where the line is

And what it is not.

  • Not a will. It has no legal force and moves no money, property or possessions. For that you need a solicitor or a will-writing service.
  • Not a title to land. Buying a tree gives you the tree, not rights over the ground it grows in — including any ground of ours.
  • Not a funeral plan. It is not a prepaid funeral or burial arrangement, and it is not regulated as one.
  • Not a carbon certificate. Carbon is recorded as “Not measured”, because we have not measured it. An honest figure needs years of measurement and a named method, so we do not print a number and we claim no offset.
  • Not a notification service. Nothing here detects a death or watches for inactivity, and nothing is sent to anyone on your behalf.

The certificate is made to be shown. The practical details of where a tree lives, and anything personal you write down, are not.

Nothing is ever sent for you.We cannot know when someone has died, we do not watch for inactivity, and we never contact a nominated person on your behalf. If a family ever gets in touch about a tree, a person at DeathTree reads it and checks it — no part of this is automatic.

Your tree record holds its timeline, its measured heights, the place it is growing and anything you want the people who come after you to know. It is yours to edit, export or delete, and it is only visible when you are signed in.

Your wishes, carefully handled.You can write down what you would like to happen, and who you would like to read it. Those words stay in your record until someone with your permission reads them: we do not send them anywhere, and nothing about it happens on its own. Anything involving ashes needs the landowner’s permission and proper guidance, and we will say so every time.

These are personal preferences, not a legal will and not a paid funeral arrangement. Signing in shows you your own trees only; a shared certificate link shows only what is on the certificate itself.
